Symptoms Of Hypothyroidism




The hypothyroidism is a disorder of the endocrine system caused due to the lesser levels of the thyroid hormones in the body. But, before it is known that one is suffering from hypothyroidism the initial step to look are the symptoms of hypothyroidism.

The various symptoms of hypothyroidism in our body are divided into stages as follows: 1. The early symptoms of hypothyroidism:
These include the symptoms which occur on the onset/beginning of the disorder and are as follows:

  • Fatigue: the patient feels tired easily even by doing small amount of work.
  • The muscular strength reduces and the hypotonia prevails.
  • The patient feels uncomfortable in area of cold temperature.
  • The pain in joints is felt and also muscular cramps develop
  • The quality of the hair deteriorate and then tend to become brittle
  • The person feels emotionally and mentally depressed.
  • The fingernails become brittle and thin, they break off easily
  • The skin becomes dry and itching is observed.
  • Constipation
  • Goiter
  • The heart beat reduces to 60 beats per minute
  • There is weight gain and water retention inside the body
  • A pale coloration is observed in the skin.

There are also some symptoms which are less observed and do not occur in many cases. The lesser observed symptoms of hypothyroidism are:

  • Memory loss
  • The brain fog develops and leads to inattentiveness.
  • The heart rate decreases and there is decreased contractility.
  • The sugar level in the body reduces than normal
  • Anemia develops and the amount hemoglobin is less.
  • Loss of hair
  • Swallowing becomes difficult.
  • Respiratory problems occur and shortness of the breathe
  • There is need for sleep.
  • Mood swings are observed
  • There is problem acknowledged with the renal system
  • Yellowish coloration in the skin is observed
  • The levels of serum cholesterol increase
  • Hallucinations, coma like condition tends to develop.
  • The sense of smell and taste is decreased
  • Decreased sexual drive
  • Puffiness is observed in hands, face and feet.

The later stage symptoms of hypothyroidism which are observed are as follows:

  • Breaking, harsh and deepening of voice is observed.
  • The skin especially of the face becomes dry and puffy.
  • The eyebrows become thin.
  • In women generally the menstrual cycles become abnormal
  • The basal temperature of the body decreases.
